When J. Phillip Thompson, PhD, Deputy Mayor of New York City, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he found the next-level treatment he was looking for at the Maimonides Prostate Center. Under the care of Dr. David Silver, Director of the Division of Urology and leader of the Maimonides Prostate Center, Mr. Thompson underwent focal high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a minimally invasive treatment that selectively destroys only the cancerous prostate cells without harming healthy tissue.

“I’m so thankful for the outstanding care I received from Dr. Silver and his dedicated Prostate Center team,” Mr. Thompson reflected.

Maimonides is the first hospital on the East Coast to offer this advanced therapy that minimizes scar tissue, reduces complications and speeds recovery times – benefits that a busy government official like Mr. Thompson needed. Following his successful HIFU procedure, Mr. Thompson is back to his important work of leading our city and advocating for all constituents in communities across NYC.
